Surnames: Roselle, Wettstein, Haldeman-Julius Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.california.counties.sanmateo/2682.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The last things found were: 1928 article in the Bismarck Tribune a year after their marriage and an undated photo in an unknown newspaper sent to me by someone in Kansas and probably from a newspaper of Lawrence, KS. of Josephine in costume on stage in a Lawrence, KS theatre where she was "packing them in" with a dance offering. I found them on a 1930 census in Chicago. Nothing further until I then found the death information on Aubrey just a few days ago and saw he died in California. Josephine does not show up on death information under any name; she was born 1909- she could, of course, still be living but again, an obit on Aubrey would certainly help out. As for the name explanation: I did a lot of research on Haldeman-Julius while looking for Josephine since she was married under the surname Haldeman-Julius rather than her birth name of Wettstein; there were articles from all over the country about this couple so I know them well. They published the "famous" Little Blue Books in Girard, KS and after the scandal about the companionate marriage and their own lies about Josephine being their illeg. child and so on (there is so much one has to read it) they move their firm to Freeport, Ill. for a while. Emmanuel combined their surnames when he and Anna Marcet married and thus became known as Haldeman-Julius. If one does a Google search you are overwhelmed with information on this couple and the connection Marcet had to the Hull House in Chicago. Fascinating, really. I have done extensive research on the Wettstein family as they are/were my family of research; the Haldeman- Julius part came up while trying to track Josephine and which complicated/confused the research because of their lies, her using the surname Haldeman-Julius instead of Wettstein. I have tried every possible search for her on SSDI - nada. The most recent thing I have on her is what I mentioned above.
