First question, do you need a certified copy, or is an informational copy sufficient? Same price, but if you need a certified copy you will need to go thru many more hoops. Payment types accepted in the office are cash, checks, and credit or debit cards (Visa and Mastercard only). Application Mailed requests for certified copies of birth and death certificates must be accompanied by a notarized application. (Application form will require the Adobe Acrobat Reader which may be downloaded for free here.) Mail the application with the required payment in a check or money order only (payable against a USA bank) to the above address - Attn Vital Records. Make checks payable to San Mateo County Clerk-Recorder.
