Marie was born August 11, 1904 in Altona, Bates Co., MO to William Henry and Louisiana (Davis) Banke. She died February 25, 1970 in San Mateo Co., CA. Her first marriage was to C.A. Gifford, date unknown, possibly in MO. Does anyone know what the C.A. initials stood for? Or his birth or death dates? My great Aunt Marie's second marriage was to Raymond J. Sherhart date unknown. She was living in Chicago, IL when she met Ray. He was born January 17, 1896 in Arcadia, WI and died March 12, 1958 in Madison, WI. She did not have any children with either husband. However, Ray may have been married before and had a daughter (need to research this.) Marie did not marry again, but moved back to MO for a couple of years to be near her sister, Bea, then on to Palo Alto, San Clara Co., CA to be near another sister, Peache, where she worked as a switchboard operator, in the mid 1960's, (and dad tho! ught, possibly at the same college where Peache was a secretary), until her death. If you have any photos of Marie or her sisters, I would be interested in seeing them or hearing about those stories. Marie had 5 sisters: Grace Mae (Mrs. Fred DeMott); Lynna B. (Mrs. Charles W. Martz); Deane Bernice (Mrs. Walter L. Harrison); Alice Beatrice (Mrs. Lewis Edward Hess---my grandmother) and Peache (Mrs. Reginald Nickerson). She also had 3 siblings that died young. Marie is really the only Great Aunt I remember. Thank you for your help! Kathryn Hess Cheek P.S. Herman J. Banke, born Jan 2, 1855 and died Dec. 25, 1914 in National City, San Diego Co., CA was a brother to William Henry Banke, Marie's father. Herman was married to Martha Agnes Byrne and they had 2 children: Alfred and Clara Banke.
