BRUCE RAY thrust himself into a life of volunteering and business development. And family life was no less important to Ray, who died Thursday of lung cancer at his Rancho Cucamonga, CA home. He was 60. “He was always interested in helping other people and making them happy and comfortable,” said his wife, Marilyn. A 10-year resident of the county, Ray was born December 29, 1943 in Palo Alto, CA. He was raised in the San Gabriel Valley and graduated from Temple City (CA) High School in 1961. In 1965, he earned a bachelor of science in business administration from Cal Poly. Pomona. While still in high school, Ray began working at Ray Products, Inc., a plastics company started by his parents, Allen and Margaret Ray. Ray succeeded his father as president in 1975. The company moved from El Monte to Ontario in 1995. Ray volunteered at the Family Counseling Center in San Gabriel and served on the board of the Leadership Council of the College of Business Administration of Cal Poly Pomona. Ray served on the national boards of both the Society of Plastics Industry and the Termoforming Institute and was a member of the San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce. “It was just very important for him to constantly give back to the community,” his wife said. But family was priority with Ray, and spending time with his grandchildren was his favorite activity. He enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling to Hawaii with his wife. Other survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Espe of La Canada, CA and Jennifer Hicks of Corona, CA; two sons, Robert Ray of Sacramento, CA and Brian Ray of Rancho Cucamonga; a stepson, Michael Mehaffie of Rancho Cucamonga; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 11 am today at Rose Hills Mortuary, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier. The family asks donations be made to a scholarship fund in his memory at the College of Business Administration at Cal Poly Pomona. For more information, contact Hart Roussel at 909-869-3433.
