I've "rescued" an old photograph of the DOSS Family of Los Angeles, California including Bessie V.W. DOSS and two of her children, Ashley V.W. DOSS, and Henry C. DOSS. The photograph was probably taken in the early 1900's at a studio in Los Angeles with Bessie appearing to be in her 20's or 30's at the time and the two boys likely 5-6 years old at the time. Based on limited research I believe this is a photograph of Elizabeth "Bessie" B. VAN WYCK who married Ashley Summerfield DOSS on 29 April 1894 in Los Angeles, CA. Ashley was born in California in July 1867 to parents Edward Winston DOSS b. 1829 in Botetourt, VA and Martha Ann COKER b. 1834 in Warren, KY or TN. Ashley Summerfield DOSS had two siblings, Carrie DOSS b. 1864 and Jesse W. DOSS b. 1869 both in Los Angeles, CA. Records indicate that Ashley VanWyck DOSS b. 27 October 1896 in Los Angeles, CA died in Fullerton, CA on 17 January 1981. I also find Henry Coker DOSS b. 5 November 1897 in Los Angeles, CA, died 21 August 1950 in Los Angeles Co., CA. Elizabeth VANWYCK DOSS b. 15 February 1873 in New York, died 10 July 1945 in Los Angeles Co., CA. Elizabeth was the daughter of James J. VAN WYCK and Henrietta WRIGHT who were recorded during the 1880 census living in East Fishkill, NY along with another child, Abram VAN WYCK age 6. At that time James was 37 years of age and Henrietta was 39 years of age all having been born in NY to NY born parents. Indications are that Elizabeth & Ashley DOSS may have had additional children including, Ruth E. DOSS b. 1895 in Los Angeles, CA; Robert E. DOSS b. 31 December 1898 in CA and died 14 November 1967 in San Mateo, CA; Benjamin Franklin DOSS b. 25 August 1901 in Los Angeles, CA, died 21 April 1968 in Riverside, CA; Rolla A. DOSS b. 16 May 1906 in Los Angeles, CA and died February 1982 in Glendora, CA; and Annabella F. DOSS b. in Los Angeles and listed as age 7 during the 1920 census. The couple is said to have divorced sometime between 1913 and 1922. By 1930 Ashley DOSS was living with his new wife Anna in Riverside Co., CA. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Surnames: Cunha Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UW.2ADI/1942 Message Board Post: David Vernon Cunha David Vernon Cunha of Clovis, the son of Vernon Cunha of Half Moon Bay, died Aug. 19 at his home, at age 53 due to cancer. Affectionately known by family, friends and associates as Dave or "Chief," he left a distinguished military record and a legacy of bonhomie. "He was good-hearted," said his father. "Everyone liked him." Mr. Cunha was born Oct. 3, 1950, and grew up in Half Moon Bay, graduating from Half Moon Bay High School around 1968. In December 1968 he enlisted in the Air Force, serving in active duty until December, 1972. Over those four years, he served in Vietnam and earned the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After a short time in the civilian work sector, he returned to the Air Force and joined the California Air National Guard, 144th Fighter Interceptor Group, with duty at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona, which began in 1973. Soon thereafter he moved to Fresno and served at the Fresno Air National Guard Base. Known as a rock for his leadership and reliable work in fighter aircraft maintenance, Mr. Cunha volunteered for federalization to fight the war on terrorism, proving to be a driving force behind rapid-fighter aircraft activation in response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. He was also instrumental in enabling the 144th Fighter Wing, California Air National Guard, Fresno, to take advantage of opportunities to provide defense of the country's western border. When he took time to relax, Mr. Cunha spent hours at the lake with family, close friends and extended family. The owner of several boats, trucks and a fine selection of cowboy hats and boots, he was frequently known to sing any number of cowboy tunes and top them off with a two-step. He also knew every line from all of John Wayne's movies. Mr. Cunha is preceded in death by his mother, Darlene, who died in June 2001. He is survived by his wife, Debra Cunha, son Michael (and wife Kim) Cunha, daughter Heather Cunha and son Zechary Cunha, all of Clovis, and his father, Vern Cunha of Half Moon Bay. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. Services, held in August at the Rock Church in Fresno, were attended by 500 to 600 friends, relatives and military acquaintances. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances in memory of David V. Cunha to the Hinds Hospice, 1616 W. Shaw, Fresno, CA 93711 Wednesday, September 15, 2004, Half Moon Bay Review and Pescadero Pebble
