    3. Hi Mike, Did you post to the Santa Clara mailing list also since his place of death was Santa Clara county? I searched the San Mateo times 4/23 - 4/26 1934 which is online through the Godrey Library and didn't come up with a mention of his death. I show The Palo Alto News 1926-1938 is available at the CA room of the state library in Sacramento....also the Stanford Daily and The Palo Alto Sun Nov 1933 - Oct 1935..... For the past two years I have been doing Wettstein research for my dau-in-law whose mother was born a Wettstein. I have been trying to connect Josephine's Father, Jacob to Henry/Heinrich Wettstein because I ran into a brick wall with Henry as to where in Switzerland he came from;was hoping to find out by tracking Jacob and his descendants. It has been a fascinating, interesting, educational trip since none of my own ancestors came from Switzerland nor were they coal miners. The more I followed the trail of Josephine in looking for answers, the more I became caught up in her life; she was a very interesting woman. Last information I received was in the obit of her "brother" Henry Haldeman that states his sister Josephine Grift, was in Davidson, N.C.; but I was thinking perhaps the name was really Vandergrift, knowing how incorrect obits can be. After following her life for so long, I really wanted to know what happened to her in later life. And of course, hoping she left some descendants who had some family information to share/exchange. If you want to exchange information off site, you can send e-mail to me at [email protected] (if you use Yahoo, Gmail or hotmail [spammers' favorites]it may be deleted as spam so I can put you on my list of those to allow.) Looking forward to hearing from you - thank y! ou for replying! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have the obit of Aubrey Roselle which mentions a wife other than Josephine; I have been able to track "Joey" to North Carolina and apparently (?) a second marriage of hers, by finding the obit of her "brother" Henry. I am now hoping to find an obit on her. I have been able to connect her to her birth parents, so all I am lacking now is a place and date of death for her.

Burial in Woodlawn cemetery, Texarkana, AR. He died in the Influenza Epidemic. In the 1910 census, he is living with his mother, Martha Allen (COFFEE) EDMON, widow, in Texarkana, Bowie county, TX. The census is transcribed as "Edmondson". I know this is the correct family because of the given names, dates and the address of the residence in the original image. I never knew if John ever married....but,in the 1920 census for Texarkana AR, there is a Caley ADAMS, wife, Pearl, two daughters and a step-son, Terry EDMON, 1yr,4mo old. Their residence was within sight of my grandmothe's house. Pearl and Terry are common names in our family. Just recently, I found an old post a on San Mateo Message Board by a Cathy Hill who is searching for John Morris EDMON, wife Pearl and son Terry. All data she gave fit my Johnny exactly. SSDI has Terry E. EDMON, b. 8 Aug 1918; d. 10 Dec 1998 in Baton Rouge, LA. Could someone please locate an obit for me. I would really appreciate a copy so I can find out if this is actually my family.

    3. Folks- As an east coaster with an all east coast family, I am delighted to find out that my grandmother's brother had moved to San Carlos. Harry Humphrey was here supposedly in the 1950s and died in San Mateo Cty 31 Mar 1961. I might have living relatives here! Our Oakland Public Library does obit lookups for a few dollars. Is there a San Mateo library that will do an obit lookup? Or is there a volunteer on this list who does them? Thanks- Nancy in Oakland

MURDER IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY. - Two men named DONOHUE and McNAMARA had a difficulty at Sebastopol, in Sacramento county, resulting finally in the death of the former. McNAMARA accosted DONOHUE, saying that he could whip him. DONAHUE replied that he had no license for saying so; when they stripped and fought, DONAHUE whipping him. They then shook hands and parted, apparently good friends. In a short time afterwards, McNAMARA accompanied by some half a dozen friends, returned, jumped upon DONOHUE and shot him, the ball passing through his imperial and upward into the brain, causing death in a few minutes. McNAMARA and his companions were arrested immediately and await examination. - Sacramento News. BOOKS - We call attention to the card of A. ROMAN & Co. in another column. The S.F. Herald has the following in relation to the murder of Geo. GORDON a mulatto, at San Francisco, on the 29th inst. It was charged by the wife and sister-in-law of GORDON, who keeps an extensive millinery establishment on the corner of Minna and Second streets, that SCHELL came to their place on Monday afternoon, and while they were in the working room back of the salesroom, leaned over the counter and took $11 from the drawer. They (as they assert) pursued him, and called for a policeman, but SCHELL made his escape at the time. The same evening GORDON and his wife met SCHELL in the street and charged him with the theft, which he denied. As this part of the subject has not been investigated SCHELL's guilt of the larceny may be doubled. He informed some friends of the accusation which had been made against him, and it is probable that they advised him to take the course which he afterwards did. Yesterday morning, about 11 o'clock, he went to GORDON's barber shop, (it appears that he had previously lurked around his house for an hour or two.) and said to him; "George that affair last night, was not correct." Some further words passed between them, when SCHELL struck GORDON Over the head with his cane, breaking the cane. They then clinched, when Ralph DORR, who with E.A. WILLETT had accompanied SCHNELL to the shop, attempted to separate them. He was unsuccessful, but the employees of the shop succeeded. As soon as they were separated SCHELL drew a Derringer pistol, which he had borrowed from Levi SOLOMON, and fired, the ball passing through GORDON's breast. GORDON ran to the street, where he fell, and SCHELL followed and beat him over the head with the pistol. He was soon after arrested.
