My grandfather's name was John William Pfost. He passed away at San Luis Obispo General Hospital on Johnson Avenue on April 28, 1966. He had resided in California for twenty five years. His death certificate says that he was in the Navy during WW II. I understand that military records from that time are not available, as there was a fire destroying almost all of them. I am wondering where I can find military records from that time in California. I am assuming he enlisted from California. I would appreciate any help I can get.
