William's parents were John Stewart b. July 11, 1801 in Monongalia Co., VA and Elizabeth Keiser b. November 22, 1808 in Fayette Co., PA (Now Taylor Co., W.VA). William had 4 brothers, Allen, John, James & Henry and 2 sisters, Hannah & Elizabeth. William left VA probably sometime after 1860 and relocated in San Luis Obispo. He contacted his family in VA to tell them where he had settled and that he had married and had 2 children, William and Allen. He never contacted his family again to anyone's knowledge.
