Greetings: For the inquiry awhile back regarding "San Antonio Township" on a census document, I have found this in Southern Monterey County. Location approx. 6 miles from the Olde San Antonio Mission. It evidently had a post office substation as well. 1858-1880 era records. Find no indications of this "San Antonio Township" in S.L.O.County records. As for the "Salinas Township" in census and/or "Hot Springs" designations 1850s-1870s, both are present day Paso Robles area (including the City of El Paso de Robles from 1889 forward) in San Luis Obispo County. Mr. Simpson was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Berkeley to Tracy and Cornelia Ewing Simpson. He received a Ph.D. in chemistry from UC Berkeley in 1948. He then taught chemistry at the University of Washington and the University of Oregon, spending one year teaching in Peru and Chile as a Fulbright scholar. An expert in theoretical physical chemistry, he was an author of numerous publications, including research articles and a book, and was a Gordon Conference chairman. He retired in 1977 and moved to Taos, N.M., in 1983, where he lived for five years with his family. Mr. Simpson served as a captain in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II and earned a Bronze Star. He also was an amateur painter, lithographer and photographer and played Bach and boogie-woogie on the piano. His first marriage to Ann Bruck ended in divorce. He married Carmen Tschudi in 1961. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Kergan. He is survived by his wife, Carmen of San Luis Obispo; two daughters, Elizabeth Simpson of Ossining, N.Y., and Marjorie Went of Mill Valley; two sons, Carlos Simpson of Nice, France, and John Simpson of Madison, Conn.; and four grandchildren, Cora, Bridget, Chloe and Leo. Dear List, Have a interesting question for you. I am looking for marriage information on the marriage of Heuston PHILLIPS and Giorgiana MUSIC(K). Trying to find the time and place of this marriage. In 1869 Heuston PHILLIPS had a son in Santa Barbera County named Newton J. In the 1870 census in SLO he is listed as a son living with his father with no son or wife listed. Giorgiana MUSIC(K) was a daughter of a early settler in the Cambria area. No one in my family has ever found a marriage date for them yet. Dear List, I need a look up in the 1880 Census for Rueben PHILLIPS. I know he was in Santa Rosa in 1870 and need to find where he was in 1880. In the 1890 great register (thanks Doreen!) he was in Cambria. So my best guess he was in that area in 1880. What I also need this for is that I am very interested in where he said that his father was born as I am working on a theory that his father was from North Carolina.
