I am still trying to find information about John William Pfost. I've hit a brick wall. He passed at San Luis Obispo General Hospital in 1966. I wrote them a letter asking if I could obtain any non-confidential records that they might have regarding him. I received a note back saying they retain their records only for seven years. I have written the Naval Personnel Records Center in St. Louis looking for information as well regarding him. I have yet to here from them. Does anyone have any suggestions where I might find anything out about him? Thank you, Judith Woodson Martin
Would SKS, do a marriage look-up for me at the Courthouse? About the time period 1945/1950. Do they have a index for that? What about divorce Index for period 1950-1955? Would appreciate a reply if one would be able to help. I would be more than happy to do look-ups in Oregon for anyone. Thank you, Clara Royer Scio, Oregon car@proaxis.com

My grandfather, John William Pfost, died in San Luis Obispo General Hospital in 1966. He was in his early sixties. No next of kin was noted. He and my grandmother had been divorced since the early thirties. I have all the basic information I have for him. I am looking for further information, especially any stories about him, where he was and in what condition he was that precipitated his hospital stay. I am wondering if anyone could tell me how difficult it would be to access any hospital files on John William Pfost, and not broaching his confidentiality, and where I could get them. I don't know him. My mother never knew him. I would like to understand things better than just what I have been told. Thank you, Judith Woodson Martin

Greetings: A follow up for many of us who may find it interesting and helpful. Ellis Island records are going to be available on line. "Effective April 17,2001 a database housing about 22 million records of immigrant arrivals through NY Harbor from 1892 to 1924 will be made available to the public on the Internet from records at Ellis Island NY. Records were extracted from nearly 3,700 rolls of microfilm, which were then entered into the database. The records can provide information such as an immigrants date of arrival, age, ethnicity, port of departure and the ship that brought him to the United States. This was all done with the help of more than 12,000 volunteers from the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who worked about 5.6 million hours since 1993 to accomplish this feat." Access to the data base is free at : www.ellisislandrecords.org From "The Long Island Newsday" newspaper Monday 4/16/01

My grandfather's name was John William Pfost. He passed away at San Luis Obispo General Hospital on Johnson Avenue on April 28, 1966. He had resided in California for twenty five years. His death certificate says that he was in the Navy during WW II. I understand that military records from that time are not available, as there was a fire destroying almost all of them. I am wondering where I can find military records from that time in California. I am assuming he enlisted from California. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you in advance, Judith Woodson Martin
