He was 82 years old and was one month away from celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary with his wife, Eva Mae. Hatton was a familiar figure to many Davis residents as the owner of the A.E. "Al" Hatton Chevron Station formerly located at the corner of Russell Boulevard and B Street. He served for 20 years as a Davis volunteer firefighter and retired with the rank of captain. He also was a past grand master of The Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Davis and Lodi and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an elder of Davis Community Church and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Davis. Hatton was born on a small farm near Lodi on Aug. 13, 1919, the youngest of two brothers. After graduating from Lodi High School, he received an appointment from Congressman Buck to work at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. While there, he met Eva Mae Alexander of Franklin, W.Va., and they were married in Columbia, S.C. He was drafted in 1941 by the U.S. Army and spent most of his four-year tour of duty outside London and in Paris. After the war, he went to work for Standard Oil in Lodi, working as a manager of a Standard station in Sonora. He eventually ended up in Davis, running the Chevron station. He and Eva Mae spent most of their leisure time camping, fishing, visiting their many relatives on the East Coast and taking vacation trips to Hawaii, Europe, South America, Mexico and Australia. They traveled more than 100,000 miles by recreational vehicle, visiting the continental United States and Alaska. Hatton's favorite times were spent around the dinner table with his family, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. His love and dedication to his family will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest J. and Estella Hatton of Lodi, and his brother, John Henry Hatton of Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife, Eva Mae Hatton; his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Susan Hatton of Sacramento; his daughter and son-in-law, Darlene Evonne and Jorge Loyola of Davis; four grandchildren, Curt Hatton and his wife Kristen of Fresno, Scott Hatton and his wife Sabrina of Fresno, Gabriela Loyola and Daniela Loyola of Davis; and one great-grandchild, Connor Curt Hatton of Fresno.
