Hello, Sorry that this is off-topic, I don't know who else I could ask about this. Is anyone out there familiar with old-fashioned nicknames? The reason why I ask is because I have 3 CDV's and a tintype of the same woman who I think is one of my 2nd great-grandfather's sisters. Written on the back of one CDV is this: For Charlie from your sister "Hulda" (the name Hulda was in quotation marks). I know the picture was for my 2nd great grandfather Charles William Bickford. His sisters' names were Elizabeth E., Augusta E. and Sarah M. (I don't know yet what the middle initial stood for). Does anyone know what "Hulda" could have been a nickname for? Thanks so much for your help, trying to figure this out is really bugging me. Regards, Kelly
It might be for Sarah, it sounds familiar to me. I hope someone has a baby name book--it would probably be in there. deron & kellywells wrote: > Hello, > > Sorry that this is off-topic, I don't know who else I could ask about this. http://www.behindthename.com/ HULDAH f Biblical Pronounced: HUL-da Means "weasel" in Hebrew. This name appears in the Old Testament belonging to a prophetess. HULDA (1) f Scandinavian, German Derived from archaic Swedish huld meaning "sweet, lovable". It's not a nickname.. it's an actual name. I have a couple Huldah women in my Swedish research line. Hope this helps!
