Does anyone have access to the 1850 census? I am looking for a relative who I think might have been with Mr. Sutter when gold was first found in CA. His first name is not given in any of the historical accounts of the discovery of gold. However, in the LDS census index in San Joaquin Co. in 1850 in Stockton Div. on p. 286 there is a John Gingary listed. I'd like to find his age and other members of his household, as well as his property valuation. My ancestor, John Gingery, disappeared from Ohio after the 1830 census, and I have never been able to find anything more about him, even though one account states he lived until 1863. He was a millwright, and the Gingery who was with Mr. Sutter was acting as his millwright, hence I feel this John in San Joaquin may be my ancestor. Richard
