    1. [CASANJOA] Stockton State Hospital Cemetery-update- sorta
    2. Margie
    3. Hi all... NOTE: Stockton State Asylum & Hospital recieved patients from all over California.. so this may be of interest to all with CALIF ancestors. I am still looking for names for those buried in the Stockton State Hospital cemetery on California St. This cemetery is still there, although it is now just a vacant lot strewn with litter. It is located behind the parking lot that is just south of Alpine Market (few blocks south of Alpine Ave.). I have a newspaper article & land deed documents that say the State Hospital has a list of those buried there. I have been told by those in charge of those records that there are none, only the actual medical records themselves. If any of you have any "pull" with the county/city would be nice to know if these still exist. Any lists I find either don't list deaths, or would only list those moved. If any of you have an ancestor who died between 1875-1919 and are supposed to be buried in Stockton, but no grave can be located... especially if they died at the State Hospital.. I would love to know. Only 850 or so were ever moved to Rural cemetery (cremated and put into common graves), so over 3,500 unnamed persons are buried at this site. That is a shame. Why do I seek these? Don't know.. none are my family, just seems that many were tossed away in life... now they have been tossed away and forgotten in death... We are talking about a great grandma who's hubby had her committed because she read "Those trashy romance novels", or because she was jealous... of his new younger woman... etc.. also men who were committed because they were "gold crazy"... probably had good gold mines.. and someone wanted the claim... so many reasons... some legit... hears voices all day.. says demons are after them... most for just being old, or of a different religion... religion was listed quite often. These unnamed deserve to be remembered in some way. Thanks Marge Campbell If you have information, you can call my cell phone @ (209) 603-0224. Leave a message (turned off when I am working) & I will call you back (leave best time to call).
