Surnames: Scarles Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AY.2ADE/686.1.2 Message Board Post: My mother has traced as many Scarles' as one can find in the UK records, with the family residing in Norfolk (Norwich and Great Yarmouth), UK, for several generations but the trail going cold due to the destruction of records in a fire. My grandfather said (he was very clear in his mind) that his ancestors came from Norway, and prior to that Iceland, which I know others have pointed out, but noone has proved. The family had a fishing history, Great Yarmouth being a major fishing port on the North Sea coast.
