CHP authorities said Wooton was traveling at about 75 miles per hour when the car skidded. The vehicle first struck the shoulder then skidded to the opposite shoulder and landed in a ditch. Wooton was pronounced dead on arrival at Lodi Memorial Hospital. He reportedly received a severe blow in the middle of his forehead and other major head injuries. A Trucking Contractor and resident of the Lodi District for 10 years; Wooton made his home at the corner of Indiana and Chestnut Sts. in Woodbridge. He was (continued on Page 2) a business partner of Dan Anderson of Lodi. The Highway Patrol said Wooton was apparently returning home from a pheasant hunting trip when the accident occurred. His rifle was found in the car, and several rounds of ammunition were on his person. Wooton is survived by his wife, Lucille, two daughters, Mrs. Lois Schlabs of Modesto, and Nancy Wooton of Woodbridge, and two grandchildren, tommy and Lucille Schlabs of Modesto. He was the brother of Ralph Wooton of Billings, Mont.; Donald Wooton of Ida Grove, Iowa; Mrs. Chester Goodwin of Sioux City, Iowa; and Mrs. Lester Lambert of Chicago. Funeral services are pending the arrival of relatives at Lodi Funeral Home.
