From: Margie To: Pamela Hamilton Cc: lmetzer@ss.ca.gov Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2001 7:25 PM Subject: Re: asylum records San Joaquin County Mental Health Services 511 E Magnolia Room #219 Stockton, CA 95202 This is the only valid address I have for mental health services. They are supposed to have the records. They say that they have forwarded these to the California Archives, but when I called and spoke to a Carolyn, she stated that they only recieved partial records, and none prior to 1940 or so. The California State Archives has a website at: http://www.ss.ca.gov/archives/archives.htm Below is the contact information: California State Archives 1020 "O" Street Sacramento, CA 95814 Reference Desk: (916) 653-2246 General Information: (916) 653-7715 FAX: (916) 653-7363 E-Mail: ArchivesWeb@ss.ca.gov The following are State Coordinators' for Calif Historical records: Walter P. I am sending them a copy of this email, and am also sending it to the list (hope you don't mind). If we all ask about these records, perhaps someone will reply and let us know how to request them sucessfully. I have tried the SJCHSociety, Calif Dept of Health, SJCHealth Dept, etc... no one seems to have these records. Medical or cemetery... would be nice to know what happened to them. I commend you for your efforts to find the names of the people who are buried in the grave yard there. There are probably many people who have ancestors that they can not find and would be so grateful to you for recording these names. I am looking for the medical records for my great great grandfather. I think that they would help me to understand what happened to him in his mysterious life. He was in a California asylum in the late 1800's. I think that he may have been in Stockton for a time. How can I obtain these records? I am running into stumbling blocks. Do you know where I can go to obtain them? Every time I call someone there in California they all refer me to someone else and I am getting no where. These medical records would be about 100 years old by now. He did not die in California. If you have any information about where these records can be obtained I would greatly appreciate that. 3. Please don't take this as a criticism, just some information that everyone needs to know if they are going to be successful in their searching and using the internet...... First, you need to not type all in caps - it's considered YELLING (unless you have an eyesite problem and then you should start every message with an apology that you are visually impaired and we'll all understand.....) Names, names, names, dates, dates, dates and locations are needed if you're going to get anyone to help you....none of us can utilize our resources to help if we don't have any idea of who, where, when..... let's start with your father, what was his whole name and where was he born? when did he die? where did he die? his death certificate should give his parent's names and birthplaces if the informant knew that information. where does your aunt Pearl live now? what was her maiden name and when was she born? 1. [CASANJOA] Cherokee Cemetery in Lodi
    2. Colleen
    3. Hi Julie, Do you think Lottie is buried in Lodi, just because she was Cherokee? The cemetery is named after the road it was built on, Cherokee Lane whice originally was Highway 99 through Lodi until they built the freeway to bypass all the towns....I don't believe that it has an relationship to the Cherokee Indian Nation. Did you search on line for Lottie Shrum in 1930-39 CADI as I suggested? If you didn't find her listed there, have your subscribed to the CADI list and asked for a lookup in 1905-1929? You're going to have to verify that she died in CA before you'll find her burial location - her death certificate will give those details but you need to identify her death date and county location before you can get help with her death certificate. 3. I think what you'll find at the library in Stockton Marge is the CAIF on fiche, just like here in Modesto.....the actual cards that the fiche version were filmed from are at the CA room in Sacramento in a large card file cabinet; when you find one that says Pioneer Card you ask at the reference desk counter in the CA room and they go to a special card file and pull the card - I found my ggf in the CAIF file with a card that said Pioneer Card and when I visited the library, I was hoping for more......apparently his son picked up a card to fill out yet never returned it so there was no further information on the card than what was filmed for the CAIF...... The welcome message will tell you how to request a lookup. 1930-39 and 1998-99 CADI is on line http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/gen/ca/_vitals/cadeathm.htm IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT that you visit the online CADI database http://userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi (or in the case of births http://userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/birth/search.cgi) and use the "ADD" link at the far right to leave any information you might have on any of the above names if you think they are related - when you get further details by way of a generous volunteer remember to edit your postem to share as much as you can. This keeps genealogy free and available to all. (The password is something you create so no one can edit your entry). Also, use the Social Security Number which is linked to the SSDI at rootsweb if it appears and leave a message there the same way using the POSTEM link. If you need clarification on any point, please include the previous message in your response. 2. Dear Julie: I do not know where the Lodi Cherokee Cemetery is. Near Lodi, CA., but I don't live near there. Tell me about your Lottie Shrum. Lori Marquette email: Lorimarque@aol.com

    1. [CASANJOA] Address from the '50's
    2. My aunt and uncle lived in Stockton, CA during the 1950's, and I visited them several times at: 2454 COUNTRY CLUB BLVD. The address was very close to the inland canal in Stockton. There was a lot of new construction going on in the area in the 1960's, and I wonder if that house or even that street is still in existance. Thanks to anyone who can answer.
