Hi Even though this bill has passed through all houses, Governor Davis has not yet signed this bill. We expect this to happen within the next few weeks or so... your continued support by contacting the Governor's Office with a short note of support would be most appreciated. Governor's Office Governor Gray Davis State Capitol Building Sacramento, CA 95814 Phone: 916-445-2841 Fax: 916-445-4633 governor@governor.ca.gov For those unfamiliar with SB 1448, very briefly.. it covers the treatment of State Hospital/Asylum cemeteries & how they are handled. Prior to this law, it was considered an embarrasment to the deceased patient & his/her family to have names on the graves. Instead, small markers (Stockton's were wood). The markers had case numbers, with the patient information available only upon request. Now the records containing information on these cemeteries are included in the archives of California... and deemed medical records, thus private. This bill allows for the restoration & naming of each grave. This will NOT be done at taxpayer expense. Please go to: HISTORY http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/bill/sen/sb_1401-1450/sb_1448_bill_20020813_h istory.html and read the History of this bill, and then, please let Governor Davis know you support it's signing. At the Lodi Library... don't think they are online at all. You may also find at State Library somewhere.. But as far as I can tell.. Lodi public library is the place to go... oh... and the browser/printers... automatic wind & rewind... so nice when the info is at the very end of a reel. Unfortunately, I'm transitioning from one computer system set-up to another and currently do not have scan capability with the new system. Consequently, until I get a new scanner I can't relay via e-mail attachment using the new set-up. Believe I can get a scan on the old set-up and transfer to a 3.5" floppy which I may be able to use to transfer via e-mail using a different computer but am not sure it will work until I try it. If it doesn't, I can send the 3.5" floppy via snail mail if you'll provide your address. In either case, scans will be in JPEG format unless you request different. If you have any knowledge of her high school interests (clubs, activities, etc), I can see if I can spot her in these types of photos. This particular yearbook doesn't list activities next to the pictures which is the case in other years, so there are no clues as which pictures might be relevant. Did not find anything on her husband in the 1931 yearbook. May be about a week before I can check out the 3.5" floppy option. Cheers Vern D

Hello veterans and newbies of the rootsweb. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. I know that California was not closely involved in the war here on the East coast, but I do know that many soldiers and families went West following the conflict including a few of my ancestors.. Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 41771 prisoners on record from the Union Regiments who were held here and 12960 who died here . Of these, only 460 are marked as Unknown. I thought I would send my offer to this site as I have gotten many request from California researchers in the 3 years I have been doing my work here at Andersonville.. I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask.
