Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AY.2ADE/76.1.2 Message Board Post: The only clue as to location of the ranch that I have is 8 miles east of Stockton. The family history states that James M. Williams was in the business of raising horses. Are their clues in the diary as to ranch location? Have you been successful in finding maps or property descriptions? The BLM land patent index should help. I think their Internet site is up and running again.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AY.2ADE/76.1.1 Message Board Post: Sorry for the late reply. I have not visited this site for some months. I just finished annotating a 1903 diary in Butte County and now am back on the research trail again. None of those names match anything I've discovered in the Williams family records. I did run across another family that was in the Farmington area named Gard. The family members first names in 1854 would have been David, Tryphena, (Grandparents) James M. Lucinda, his wife, and children Eliza, Susan Caroline (Lina), Serena (Rena), and Frances (Fannie). Eliza married A. H. Parks in 1862, San Joaquin County. Also possibly George W. and Franics M. James' brothers. Do any of those first names appear in the diary?

    1. [CASanJoaquin] SS vs CADI
    2. Margie Campbell
    3. Hi... I have found several cases where a person is listed on the Social security death index as having died in San Joaquin county (or what seems like), including my own father. My dad died in Livermore at the veteran's hospital there. He is listed in CADI as having died in Alameda county (correct). Remember the SSDI lists the last place the person is known to have lived.. but if they died in another place.. that may not be listed... like my dad's case.. he was taken to Livermore (by family) because he was a veteran. 3. If you don't find your person in this obit file... check the films of the Stockton Record. This file only contains some of the vast obits for the area. By far, not all for any give period will be found here. Out of the many, many lookups I have done for others.. less than a dozen came from this file. It's a starting point..but not fantastic. 3. This is part of Elkhorn township... you may want to check the Stockton Public library http://www.stockton.lib.ca.us/ for more information. A township is not a town... it's a geographical boundary, lower than the county, like a voting district is. It can be in more than one county, city.
