Margie or anyone on this list, Is there anyone that would be willing to go to Rural Cemetery in Stockton, and get a picture of a tombstone. I am needing a picture of: William D.M. SCONCE, died 20 Apr 1946. I am willing to pay expenses and this would be a lifesaver for our family. If interested, please email me privately. I am also willing to do a lookup in exchange for your help.. Lanita Sconce Miller Wichita, KS

What kind of information are you seeking? Can you post any dates? There are a lot of Cannon's in the area over that timeframe. Stockton has a Rural Cemetery... that is the official name (Rural Cemetery), although it's not that rural anymore & is within city limits. I record in my records as Stockton Rural Cemetery, as other areas probably have Rural Cemeteries also. Rural in Stockton is located on Cemetery Lane, just north of Harding way, behind the Catholic cemetery. It is very well cared for & the sexton & staff are very helpful. I have a picture of my great-grandfather, William Benjamin Dillon (1863-1898), and my great-grandmother, Harriet (Whiteman, Dillon) Smith (1863-1953), and would like to get some help in estimating when the pictures were taken. The picture of my great-grandfather has a note on the back that indicates the picture was taken in Hayden Hill, California but the hard cardboard the picture is mounted on has the following printed on it: Batchelden 183 El Dorado Street, Stockton The picture of my great-grandmother has the following on the hard cardboard the picture is mounted on: O. Cromwell. Photo I would estimate they were both in the late 20s or early 30s when the pictures were taken. That would place the time around 1890 give or take. The pictures are from the chest up but my great- grandfather is wearing a 3-piece suit with a white shit and printed tie with a very wide knot. The picture of my great-grandmother has her wearing a dark blue or black dress with a high collar and what looks like a flap over her shoulders. I can scan the pictures and send them to someone if that would help estimate a more accurate timeframe. Any help would be appreciated. Bill Dillon

I started offering my package of stuff the second week of November and I’ve had over 1,100 requests for it, I’ve received just under 200 really, really nice responsive letters and emails in response to the information (which is a nice surprise, most people just get the info and move on), I’ve gotten about 350 requests for additional help via email and snail mail and heard back from another 87 who found the info they’ve been looking for with my additional help. I’ve also had a total of 9 people send me vile, nasty, swearing emails about how I shouldn’t be helping people like this on rootsweb. But they’re a sorry lot so I don’t pay them much mind. *** So, I’m happy to report that for the $6.58 for paper, copying, staples, large envelope and postage costs, it’s well worth it! The Freedom of Information Act is a tool that is available to everyone. The request is free but it can be very confusing. You have to know where to send it, you have to have the right request form, a properly worded letter, you have to know what type of information they need to get you what you are looking for. You cannot just send in a generic "find this" request. I found a way to use FOIA in genealogy to request records that actually moves your search along. In my every day legal work I use the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) to acquire records from all areas. I will send you the forms (both State and Federal), sample request letters, what you need to send them in terms of specifics, if you have them, or if not, where and how to find them. I have compiled a list of each State’s statutes and codes that you will need to reformat the request form for your particular State or the State you are sending the request to. I have included some specific searching directions and examples that may help you. For those of us who have been unable to get to an out-of-town location or to afford a researcher it's great. My email contact is or genealogyprincess@hotmail.com not the email listed on this posting. Or simply follow the directions below! I will be happy to help anyone with any additional information or reformatting the forms for other states, other data requests, etc. Any other requests for help, I will send a form. I have to request $6.58 for paper, copying, staples, large envelope and postage costs. This package of information is 22+ pages (and growing) -- and I had no idea this would be responded to in such huge numbers (!!). So, if you*re interested, send $6.58 in cash or check [Kathy Lawler] to Genealogy Princess, 20757 Camden Square, #210, Lathrup Village, MI 48076 or use my Paypal address [checking] for $7.00 to kathlee13@yahoo.com or genealogyprincess@hotmail.com. Either way, don’t forget your address!! I will send you the information the very day I receive your address and funds. Lastly, additional information, new ways I can come up with to use FOIA will be sent to you free of charge and I*ll also be happy to answer any questions you may have. Be assured that I am not making any database of addresses or anything, I promise not to ever, ever sell your name and address to anyone. This is strictly to get you information that will help you gather documents and information to further your search for your ancestors. Very lastly, I have a larger bunch of information in my "FOIA IN GENEALOGY WORKS! on Ebay. Check that out! Thanks! Kathleen Lawler
