    1. [CASANFRA] Colma and Daly City

    3. I replied directly, but I'll add 2cents here. Daly City was incorporated in 1911 -- my mom road in a stagecoach celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding in 1961. It was not entirely sand dunes. Only the Westlake area was, altho high into San Bruno Mt can be found shells, etc. Indeed it was a farming area, being a refuge for at least my grandmth's family at her uncle's cabbage farm after the earthquake. Just over the southern border of Daly City in Colma is Holy Angels Parish on San Pedro Rd. Next door to the present church is the former church, converted into a hall. This structure appeared to be very old when I graduated from the parish school in 1962. There was no fire in either DC or Colma and parish records should exist. I've forgotten the DC parish name, but it's located in the "top of the hill" area just off Mission St near John Daly Drive. I might add that Daly City is now one of the ugliest places. It was not when I was a child, being liberally peppered with nurseries, sans being split in 2 by the 280 freeway. Everything done to the town seemed to be designed to destroy any charm it may have had. A roadhouse just before Mission St turns into the El Camino was summarly torn down. Not a single park was ever built, nurseries (then made of invidual glass panes) were vandalized out of existance. And lastly it inspired Malvina Reynolds to write the song "Little boxes". "Little boxes on a hillside, little boxes made of tickey tackey...and they all look just the same." A very sad legacy indeed. I would also add that anyone of Portuguese ancestry should probably check the Portuguese community center in South San Francisco. I have no idea if they have knowledge of local Portuguese history, etc., but it is modern, vibrant building at minimum.
