The Pacific Mail SS Co was bought out by Grace Lines in 1916. In 1925 Dollar Lines bought out Grace Line. In 1938 Dollar lines was worth $11 million, but had $17 million in liabilities and was losing $80,000 per month. The US took over the lines and renamed the outfit American President Lines.
