I received the information from my query to the CA State Archives today. It only took 2 weeks for them to process my request and return the info to me. What I received was a copy of the index page, listing 10 persons, from the book they log the prisoners into the prison. The book is chronological by date and the page runs from July 19, 1911, to July 24, 1911. The information on each person listed is as follows: Name and Number - Nativity- Crime - When Received - Term of Sentence- County Sent From - Age - Occupation - Height-Complexion - Color Eyes- Color Hair - Remarks - plus some notes KEY Dis = Discharged Res = Restored N = Notes ? = unreadable word John HENDERSON 25081/ Ill/ Burg-2nd/ Jul 19, 1911/ 5y/ Alameda/ 36/ 5'7/ Med/ Blue/ Dk Bro/ Out as ? 7-29-1911 - Res 8-11-1911 - Dis 2-19-1915 - Res Edward GALLAGHER 25082/ OH/ Petty Larceny ?/ 7-19-1911/ 1y/ Sutter/ 36/ Boilermaker/ 5'9/ Med/ Blu/ Gry Mixed/ Dis & Res 5-19-1912/ N - 4 months Yuba Co, broke Jail Dan Ruiz 25083/ TX/ Rape/ 7-20-1911/ 8y/ Alameda/ 20/ Machinist/ 5'5/ Florid/ Bro/ Black/ Dis & Res 11-20-1916 Carl SMITH 25084/ Germany/ Grand Larceny/ 7-21-1911/ San Fran/ 21/ Clerk & Laborer/ 5'7/ Fair/ Blue/ Dk Bro/ Dis & Res 2-21-1915/ N- Violated probation on above charge. Though the person I am looking for was not the one listed, this appears to be a very valuable tool for researchers if you think your person was in the CA Prison System in the earlier part of the 1900s. If any on the list makes a connection with the above names I would gladly forward you a copy of the page. My next step will be to check on old records in San Francisco to see if his fingerprints were entered into the system from there. Jim in OR
