Family lore says our great grandfather (Eppa T. Bartlett) was "shanghaid" in San Francisco in 1907 and probably put on a ship to work as a seaman. He was 20 years old at that time. He left behind a wife and a baby. According to family stories that was quite common during that period of time. I have been trying to research his disappearance but haven't really found any history to substantiate this story other than he did seem to disappear and I haven't found him in any records past 1907. Does anyone have any ideas where I might be able to find out more information regarding similar disappearances or any place that might actually have records. Nancy
Nancy There was a book written a few years ago, on this subject, by a man in San Francisco. Not sure if he had names listed or not. There might be crew lists that you could check at the Maritime Library or at N.A.R.A., to see if you could find his name. Hope this is of some help.
