Listers: It is important to know that the Ellis Island site is not "complete". I have the copy of my grandfather's application for citizenship which gives the ship "La Savoie" out of Havre France, and the date of arrival. He is not on the Ellis Island site. There is an alternate site created by Morse which I think has been posted here before. In it he discusses the incompleteness and what is missing. This particular sailing of the La Savoie is not there. Which means, I guess that you have to locate the records at NARA. His site is also good for locating names that may have been misspelled. My uncle Luigi was spelled "Luiji"---not too different but he happens to have a common last Italian name also. I found his name and the manifest, which showed that it was him, on the Morse site. Same with Luigi's wife and daughter when they came over later. For some reason the wife does not come up under either her maiden or married name but they are both on the manifest. I did find her through the Morse site by the child's name, which was misspelled, "Carmelo" instead of Carmelita. So do check out this site if you are having trouble with the original Ellis Island site. It takes you into it, but via a different set of parameters. Easy to use. http://home.pacbell.net/spmorse/ellis/ellis.html Scroll to the bottom of the page to find out about the missing manifests. "rwalker"
