I just wanted to mark the start of my most ambitious task--the Transcription of the 1870 Census for San Francisco to go online. I believe it will be of much help to researchers since San Francisco was a major port of entry on the west coast in the 19th century, especially with the gold fields and with immigration. I have currently completed 25 pages out of 271 pages in the 1st Ward. (out of 12 wards). I will periodically be letting all know as to the progress I make in this large undertaking. Although not native to San Francisco, I was born and raised in Alameda County across the bay and have been in San Francisco enough to be familiar with much of it. I believe this challanging work will be appreciated by many researchers as I progress. Sincerely, Edward A. Black, Sr. [native of Oakland, CA]
