    3. Hi Patti, Very interesting. Unfortunately, there were no TAURECK's listed for either 1860 or 1870 census index. The census index I use covers the whole US. Question comes up now is whether or not they changed their names at some time. I say this for several reasons. A little history lesson here that might help. Originally, the country of Prussia was called Pomerania. Located on the Baltic sea. Western Pomerania is now part of Germany. Eastern Pomerania is now part of Poland. The people in Pomerania had their own language, music, dress and customs and were known as Kashubian. When Russia conquered that area it was renamed Prussia. After W.W.I the western part of Prussia was given to Germany and after W.W.II the eastern part was given to Poland. The Kashubian culture still exists today and the Polish and German people can not understand their language. Now.... My g-grand parents on my mother's side came from the eastern part of Prussia in 1872 to Ontario Canada. Their names were Witkowski. After they arrived in Ontario they changed their name to Vitkuskie. My grandfather was born in Ontario as a Vitkuskie. After he was grown he changed his name to Kuske. So here you can see the possibility of the names being changed. It will be hard to find out. I was lucky and my aunt had most of the information and another person wrote a book about the polish immigrants to Ontario and listed all of my ancestors. Sorry I couldn't find them for you.
