    1. [CASANFRA] Partial Transcription for 1870 census for San Francisco County - (1st Ward)....
    2. Edward A. Black, Sr.
    3. I just completed transcribing the first 120 pages for the 1st Ward in the 1870 Census for San Francisco County, CA and have it online. It is my hope that it will help a lot of people. I believe from "http://americahurrah.com/SanFrancisco/VotingWards.htm" that the 1st Ward is likely located in an area bounded by Kearny St. and Washington St. and the San Francisco Bay...in northeastern San Francisco [near today's Financial District?]. I believe this part of San Francisco was distroyed in 1906 in the aftermath of the Great Quake of 1906 by the fire that distroyed much of San Francisco. I am now continuing the transcribing of the 1st Ward, and will follow it with the 2nd Ward on thru the 12th Ward. This will likely take many months to complete, but I will periodically inform as to its status. As can be imagined, this is going to be quite a task, but well worth it to me, knowing so many will be helped... The 1870 San Francisco County (1st Ward) Census transcription will be located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cenfiles/ca/sanfrancisco/1870/ed39/sanfrancisco/ward01/ It is my belief that this will help researchers a lot. Sincerely, Edward A. Black, Sr. [a native of Alameda County, born in Oakland]
