"He held the position of head Master of St. Matthew's Hall in San Mateo from 1869 to 1881. In 1881 he came to San Francisco and established Irving Institute, the well known school for young ladies" === CHURCH, L.S. - Vol I - page 603 He was born in Alvarado, Alameda Co. in 1865 - a lawyer and appointed Assistant District Attorney in 1889.
