I am trying to locate a relative who was in the federal prison at Elkton Ohio in the 1920s and 30s. Does anyone know of a site that might give me the information? Thanks in advance Take care Barbara Piringer
Hi Barbara, My name is Barbara too. I do not know if there is a website but I have written to the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, to try to locate my uncle. And very nicely, I received a letter back saying the archivist checked microfilm from the mid-1910s through 1969 but did not find his name. The address if you want to write is: U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons 320 First Street, N.W. Room 841 HOLC Building Washington, D.C. 20534 I had labeled my letter as FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) You have to wait a long time for an answer, but I was satisfied with the researching. Best wishes, Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: Barbara L Piringer<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2006 10:48 AM Subject: [CASANFRA] Federal prisoners I am trying to locate a relative who was in the federal prison at Elkton Ohio in the 1920s and 30s. This website gives information on the various federal prisons and there is an inmate locator for inmates released after 1982. http://www.bop.gov/inmate_locator/index.jsp Also, there is information about how to locate a prisoner released prior to 1982. I recently found a website that has an inmate locator for Leavenworth for the years 1895 - 1931 just by doing some google searches. You may be able to do the same for Elkton. In addition I found inmate records for Leavenworth stored at the National Archives - Central Plains so you may want to try the National Archives that covers Ohio. Also, check the United States District Courts to see which region covers Ohio. If convicted and sent to a federal prison they would have gone through the US District Courts. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Barbara L Piringer Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2006 1:48 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [CASANFRA] Federal prisoners I am trying to locate a relative who was in the federal prison at Elkton Ohio in the 1920s and 30s.
