    2. sandrah
    3. to Cathy in Powell OH (unfortunately, this requester did not volunteer their email address) I have copied the material requested and will be mailing it to you shortly. Meanwhile, here are some highlights .... Your note asked for infomation as if there were children possibly from the marriage of William Le Grand Dickenson/Dickinson and Luella Johnson. I tried to find that out for you but didn't have much success. Read below. There are a considerable amount of citations for this family and I tried to copy what might be of interest to you. >From SF Examiner Dec 25, 1891 article which also has a sketch of the Doctor. Dr. W. L. Dickinson native of TN, came with his father's family to CA in 1846 as a small boy. His father was G. D. Dickinson who at one time occupied the position of Prefect under the Territorial Government of this State (CA). This is just a short excerpt. I don't know if you want the rest, since it doesn't give more details regarding his family. But if you do, let me know. >From the SF Call Jan 3 1892 Dr. W. L. Dickinson A Mexican War Hero of Distinction In 1849 he settled in Stockton, then called Weberville. This article I also did not copy because it gave no further details about his family. >From SF Chronicle Dec 1 1904 Review of book by Luella J. Dickinson - There is a copy of the book (117 pages) in the CA Room. I copied the picture of G. D. Dickinson and the front page for you. This mentions her husband was G. D. Dickinson, who was a 15 year old boy when he crossed the plains in a party that traveled just before that of the ill-fated Donner Party. In CA, Judge Dickinson built the first hotel in Stockton and his two sons prospered. I believe that husband's name should have been Wm. Legrand, not G. D. Luella J. Dickenson died age 66 Alameda County on Aug 30 1912 - unable to locate obituary in Oakland Tribune. >From Pioneer cards G. W. Dickenson, son of Gallant was born in MO settled in Merced in 1858. In 1881 had a farm. Marrid Mary Ann Brooks and they had 5 children. W. L. Dickenson, brother of G. W. was a native of TN. >From San Joaquin Valley Argus June 11 1870 the late G. D. Dickinson had a service in Hopetown, Merced County, CA Isabella Dickinson, wife of G. D., has a mention in the San Jose Pioneer March 17 1877 and it says she died March 14 1877 at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. A. G. Lawrey. Mrs. A. G. Lawrey is profiled in the Apr 13 1912 issue of the Pacific Grove Daily Review. She was 14 years old when she came to CA with her family. I have also copied the census records for your W. L. Dickinson from 1870, 1880 and 1900, but I believe the couple had one child but it didn't survive. The 1900 census has 1 childen listed as being born, but it looks like the next number (living) is a 0. >From History of San Joaquin County G. D. Gallant and wife, Isabelle McCreary, had four sons and 2 daughters, of which Samuel was the fifth in order of birth.
