    3. Hello MeLani, Actually there was a town known as "Sisson" a very long time ago (c. 1870 or later I believe). It is now known as "Mount Shasta, California". It is a small tourist town located at the base of Mount Shasta. The town was also know as "Strawberry Valley" before it became known as "Sisson". The name "Sisson" was the name of one of the last known Indian inhabitants (a member of the Okwanuchu tribe - a branch of the larger Shasta tribe which inhabited most of Siskiyou county at one time). "Sisson Jim" or "Jim Sisson" lived there and I suspect that is how the town became known as "Sisson" at one time. Sisson Jim was believed to have died sometime before 1920. However, locals in the area would likely have no knowledge about the name "Sisson" or the fact that the town of Mount Shasta was once known as "Sisson". I believe it became known as "Sisson" after it was known as Strawberry Valley which was before the death of Sisson Jim himself I believe. I'm not exactly sure when it became known as the town of Mount Shasta (as it still is known today) nor exactly how long it was known as "Sisson". This town that was known as "Sisson" is located is Siskiyou county in the pacific northwest of California. The town of what was once known as "Sisson" is about 250 miles northeast from San Francisco. The name could also be "Lassen" which is the name of yet another mountain in the Cascadian mountain range. It, like Mount Shasta is also an active volcano. Lassen is located about 200 miles from San Francisco and 100 miles south of Mount Shasta. Lassen is located in another county however named "Lassen" county. Here is a link to the history of that particular region. http://www.co.lassen.ca.us/about.htm They might have a genealogy lists for these counties. Both of these counties are quite large but there aren't that many people living there in either one of them and the indigenous population became scant after the invasion of the white man which occurred in c. 1840. Maybe others on the list can help more if they might have specific knowledge of these regions and what other lists there might be that could be useful.
