    3. I just today received a copy of a 1905 birth certificate from the state's Department of Health Services, Office of Vital Records. It took just 6 weeks from the day I mailed my request. I do not think that is too long. And it only cost $14 whereas the county wanted $19 for a birth certificate. So I am satisfied. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeanne Moore<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, June 21, 2006 9:08 AM Subject: Re: [CASANFRA] New to list with a question about obtaining death certificates I've always gone through the Vital Records office in Sacramento to order California birth and death certificates (part of the state government - Department of Health Statistics) rather than go through the counties. Here's a link where you can get instructions on how to order. http://www.dhs.ca.gov/hisp/chs/OVR/Ordercert.htm<http://www.dhs.ca.gov/hisp/chs/OVR/Ordercert.htm> Also, I second the response about ordering an "informational" certificate - it's much easier than ordering a certified copy. You don't have to get anything notarized. --- Sue McNelly <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: > Hello everyone, > > I am new to your list and fairly new to US > genealogy! 3. I've had good luck with the state's Dept. of Health, too, and think that the processing time wasn't all that long considering that they must have a large number of people requesting copies all the time. I think the ones I requested took about 6 weeks, too. Did your family come from France to San Francisco? I'm guessing by your name that they did. Mine (on my mother's side) came from France to San Francisco, too. Jeanne --- "Andre A.
