Hello, I was hoping someone maybe able to give me some more insight on this person because this obit sounds like it might fit an old family story. My gggf was Albert Johnson b. 1859 in WI, (I know a lot about him but there has always been this family story about his parents remarrying and the new father was great to the children) On my gggf death record it says his father is John Johnson b. Sweden. But the only family we can link Albert and his two other brothers (who live with Albert later on in 1880-1900's) is with a Peter Johnson and a mother Josephine. I'm wondering if this story of a father dying and leaving one son is Albert and his mother then remarries her husbands brother or another Johnson and has the rest of her children. If anyone has a way to lookup this obit in another paper it might list something different as I have found like a wife's name or place of burial. "JOHNSON--SAN FRANCISCO; April 18 -- John JOHNSON who fell from the roof of a house on Jones street yesterday died this morning from effects of the accident. He leaves a wife and child." Hi, Cathie. Do you know in what county in Wisconsin Albert was born? If your Albert is the one enumerated with wife Mary (and several children) in San Francisco in 1900, the census indicates that he was born in March 1860 in Wisconsin. If that is accurate, then Albert and his mother would have almost certainly still been in Wisconsin at the time John JOHNSON of San Francisco died in April 1860. I see an Albert JOHNSON born c1859 enumerated with Peter and Josephine in 1870, but his birthplace is listed as California, not Wisconsin. This could be a mistake by the enumerator or whoever was providing information, but the discrepancy should be duly noted as possible evidence that this is not the correct Albert JOHNSON. You mentioned that Albert's death record indicates his father's name; was any information (even "not known") entered for his mother's name? Was the informant someone who "should" have known his mother's name? Do you already have Albert's marriage record? They sometimes indicate parents' names; sometimes siblings were witnesses to marriages, and finding a certain sibling's name with Albert's in a household in an 1860 or 1870 census would suggest a stronger likelihood that it is the right household. Do you know names of any certain siblings for Albert JOHNSON?
