If I understand what you are saying, that is incorrect. Both my parents and inlaws are in the index...with data..Usually the funeral home notifies SS of the death and it goes from there. Anyone who receives SS will eventually be on the index whether or not there is a spouse or underage or handicapped child to draw on it.
