You can check the California Death Index after free registration at Vital Search: http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/gen/ca/_vitals/cadeathm.htm There were 8 Joseph Becks listed as passing away in California between 1905-1929, and two of them passed away in San Francisco in the 1920's. One was age 42 when he passed away in 1923, the other was age 56 at his passing, I think it reads January 19, 1926, the image is difficult to read. One of your best bets might be to get a copy of the 1926 death certificate from the County if you think that might be him, which will give the residence at time of death and name of informant and spouse. It also usually gives length of residence and might provide clues as to when they moved to California. Also where he was buried, then you could check with the cemetary to see if wife was buried in a plot next to him and possibly get her dates of birth and death. Or maybe someone can find his obituary in the SF Chronicle. If the obit gives married names of daughters, then you could search the Birth Index for possible names of their children.
