Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any info on were my gmother who was born in 1906 and lived on Chenery Street would have gone to get Art lessons or Art School as a teenager most likely during the 1915-1935 time period. Her name was Ruth V. Johnson. She had 10 other siblings so I don't think they had a lot of money. Her father ran a Saloon/liquors and mother had a small grocery store on Chenery so they most likely were just getting by! I have her with her mother and sibling living at: Census: 1920 US Census 13 years old 3214 A Mission Street San Francisco, CA 1930 US Census 20 years old 278 29th Street San Francisco, CA San Francisco City Directory 1925 1800 Sutter Waitress She marries by 1937 to Irving Condon and she didn't do much after that and then she died. Any ideas were she would have furthered her talent. She died when my mom was only five so I never got some of those questions answered! My mom always said her mother went to an art school for a while for lessons. I know she could draw very well and since all the girls in my family seem to have this artistic talent I'm just curious. It would help if you posted the year she died, if you know, and her mother's maiden name. We can't assume she was born in SF per se, and there are a number of Ruth Johnson's born around then in Calfornia, none with middle initial V. that I could find.
