My Great Uncle William "Bill" GALLAGHER was supposed to own a bar across the street from the Call Building during this time. Family stories from his daughter say that he had a safe that was used to help protect the seaman's' money for them and that he never allowed females into the establishment. Though this is only family rumor, it is said that he sold the bar when the city forced him to permit ladies into the bar. It was also a hangout for the reporters from the Call newspaper.
