    1. [CASANFRA] World War !! $100 bills

    3. Went to a market today and saw a customer gave the cashier a $100 bill. Within a flash I was back to SF in World War II signing off a merchant ship after five months at sea. Would you believe they paid us off with $100 bills? Who had checking accounts? Each seamen received 25 to 40 of the 100s and headed off to the Embarcadero where they were many bars to quench your dry months at sea and girls anxious to make your acquaintance, if only for a short time. Needless to say many of my shipmates were pretty well broke by the time they got to the Ferry Building. Fortunately for me I was living with my mother on Fillmore and committed to helping her make ends meet. Bill
