Hi, This is response to Adrienne Stefanik's email about Mission Dorlores and records. I remembered seeing this email on line (Rootsweb) back in early 2002 and copied it because I had a boat load of relatives I was looking for. Keep in mind some of the emails, hours and info may have changed but I thought it was good info. I did try writing to Menlo Park several times and donated each time. I can't say I got much out of it but I tried. I was a bit concerned after looking many times there for two people I finally received a email from someone who took it upon them-self to help me out more not sure how she found me. She had found both names in an index. Not sure WHY the other two times the archivists couldn't find it but it was one of the KINDEST things ever. I had been searching for over ten years with every Catholic church saying they didn't have anything. Turns out it was one of my first places I had searched but never got the info on death or place of burial from the church. Don't get me wrong I LOVE SF and I LOVE doing genealogy here better than anywhere else but I do have to say dealing with the whole Catholic records thing frustrates me over and over. All I can say is keep trying, you may just find it. Turns out my relatives (a mother and daughter were buried in one place in 1880 & 1893 and then moved into a mass grave a bit later. Still can't figure that one out since there were twelve children you would have thought someone would have saved them from being dumped like that especially being Catholic! Anyway take what you want from the info below, keep in mind it's VERY hard to get records via mail. It's much better if you can go in from what I've heard. Good Luck! Cathie PS - My ggm & ggf were married in Mission Dolores in 1900, and I think my mom made her first communion there so it does have a special place in my heart! MCLAUGHLIN, JOHNSON,(CHENERY ST), DEAN, CONDON, KRAFT, COOGAN, REYNOLDS _________________________________________________________________ (Taken from Rootsweb ARchive) I got the following from an an earlier post. <All Catholic Parish records after 1900 are found in the Parish. Records from before 1900 are at St. Patricks Seminary in Menlo Park, which houses the archives. They are microfilmed. [However--I have found post-1900 records on the microfilms there for my family.} St. Patricks Seminary 320 Middlefield Rd. Menlo Park, CA 94025 (650) 328-6502 Archivist: Jeffrey Burns, PhD Hours: open M-W-F from 10:00am to 4PM. Genealogists need an appointment. "We do have materials for the 1850s, but the two oldest parishes lost their records in the 1906 Fire."> But not Mission Dolores, which did not burn. St. Patricks on Mission St. did, and there were many Irish who belonged to that parish. If you cannot get to Menlo Park to do the search yourself, if you know the date of the marriage, why not write directly to the Parish? I have requested records from 1892 from St. Boniface Church in San Francisco, and they apparently still have them there. (I wanted to get something "official" so I can prove my descendancy when I request records from Switzerland.) Mission Dolores 3321 16th St. San Francisco CA 94114 Ph: 415-621-8203 Email: mdolores@earthlink.net Note that the name is spelled dolores not delores. Important for the email. Good Luck.
