Hi Beth, I don't have answers to your question - but I have been looking for relatives/parents/siblings of my great-grandmother, Nora Monahan - any connections?? Nora Monahan, born County Cork, Ireland 25 Mar 1863- died in SF 16 Apr 1937. According to her death certificate, she came to the US/CA abt 1886. The 1900 census says she came to US in 1889, 1910 census says 1884, 1920 census says 1888, 1930 census says 1888. She married John J. Johnson, a ships carpenter (b.Finland 12 Jun 1860-d.SF 29 Dec 1945) abt 1890 and was with her husband and 4 children in 1900 in Eureka, CA. Her husband, John Johnson, came from Finland in 1888- so I'm looking at the census records that say 1888/89 as potentially just a repeat of her husbands arrival date by the enumerator...but have no docs to prove.... Sometime between 1906-1910 they moved from Eureka to San Francisco - my grandfather, William Francis Johnson (son) said they weren't in SF during the 1906 earthquake - he would have been 6yrs old at the time. By 1910, they are listed in the census in SF and John is on the SF voter registration list at the same address on Winfield St. Please let me know if Nora rings any bells with your research! I'd be interested in what other ideas you get for searching passenger lists and citizenship records... with a name as common as John J. Johnson, his has naturalization records have been difficult to track down as well! Thanks much!
