    1. [CASANFRA] Wind damage to the Hewes Building in San Francisco
    2. George Rushton
    3. The "David Hewes Building" which is at the corner of 6th and Market, was damaged early Saturday Morning, in the storm that we had. David Hewes was the man who donated the "Golden Spike" when the Union and Central Pacific Railroads came together in Utah. His building was one of the first large building to builded have the earthquake and fire. He also was one the first to grow oranges in Oranges County. He was married twice and both times to women whose first husband had died, and when they died they were buried with their first husbands. (might be a interesting marker for them;-) ) For you in or from San Francisco, this is the build on the South East Corner of Market and Sixth, with the ugly blue green cladding. But the good news is the original exterior is still there, so maybe this is mother natures way of saying get rid of it. <http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2001/11/26/MN180620.DTL> George __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
