    2. Does anyone have any knowledge of a J. B. Kemp Co. that operated in San Francisco during the 1860's? I find several names that I am researching worked for this company. Kathy

    3. Kathy, only a little bit, maybe less than you already know. I'm researching some Grahams and Hogans who worked for J.B. Kemp Co for a while. Whatever the Kemp Company did, it employed laborers and was in business until at least 1872. 1n 1869 there were two William Grahams working for Kemp. One was a hosteler dwelling at Long Bridge; the other was a laborer dwelling on W side of Kentucky near Irwin. From that it sounds like the company might have been a hostelry - outfitting house of some kind. In 1871-72 John Hogan and William Hogan were both labourers with the Kemp Co and were both dwelling at "corner Kentucky and South Streets". I think these addresses would be down in the dock area east of the Ferry Building? I presume this was close to where the men worked. Those items came from the San Francisco city directories, but I didn't do the lookup, so I don't know whether the Kemp Company might have had a commercial listing in one or more of the directories in the 1860s and 70s Would sure like to know more if you have, or find, it.
