    1. [CASANFRA] 1850 Death at sea
    2. Jim Schmitz
    3. Here's a question I've not seen before... I believe I have an ancestor that died on board ship from Panama bound for San Francisco, via Acapulco and San Diego. The trip was to take 20 days, leaving Panama on Sep 17, 1850. My ancestor, Ambrose Schmitz, died on 19 Sep 1850. My questions are these: Is it likely that he was buried in Acapulco? If so, what about the death certificate? If not, would they keep the body until San Francisco and bury him there, filing a DC as well? I believe Ambrose was traveling with his brother Joseph. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Jim Schmitz jim@mcparlane.com
