    3. When you have a name that is French in origin and probably has an American pronunciation, you must first work with the vowels. The preliminary steps would be: 1. Do you think it was pronounced dis-eer? If so, try Diseer, Disiere, Dissier, etc. It is unlikely that the "ie" was reversed. 2. Do you think they stretched it to sound like "desire"? If so, try spellings that would approximate this. 3. It is possible that the final "e" once had an accent. So, you must also try to work on the theory that it was pronounced des-eer-ray, and work out possible spellings. After this, work with doubled letters. The "ss" could have been reduced to one "s". In this case, a "z" is unlikely, as is a "c". The initial "D" could in fact be a "T". Su Buchignani
