    3. OK - I shoulda looked more closely. If you scroll down the available newspapers on the LOC site to SF Call, it's all still there. Go to advanced search, select the SF Call and then some common word like passengers. Jim James R. 1. [CASANFRA] John DUBUIS-1912 and after very elusive!
    2. Pam
    3. I am looking for information on a John O. DUBUIS who was born about 1876 in Chicago, Illinois. He had an office in San Francisco during the 1911 or after timeframe. I got the address from an old business postcard: John DUBUIS Country Farms, Room 726 Hearst Bldg., San Francisco He did sell some land in Santa Cruz area as well. He was a real estate investor. I can't find him in the 1920 census. I found his wife and daughter. By 1920 they had divorced. I did find a John DUBUIS in 1918 in Oregon with a wife Marion Catherine. In 1912, I believe he was still married to his second wife, Forest HIGGINS in 1912. . He had a daughter named Forest Alice. born about 1903. I would appreciate any help with this man. I have spent years trying to find him. Pam

    3. Adrienne, (1) Re: Leonard H. Davis: I'm not sure why he wasn't available. The list was compiled by SMCGS and printed by permission by /sf/genealogy. I would contact Cath Trindle to report the problem: <http://www.smcgs.org/board.html> (2) Re: Maxine McNamara. The California Death Index is available at various websites, we have a list at: <http://www.sfgenealogy.com/norcal/caldata.htm#calvitals> I checked a few of them (including our own), and she is being shown, as you indicated, passing away in San Mateo County. I have heard of instances in the early 1900s where death certificates weren't issued if there was a coroner investigation. But, this is pretty recent, so I would expect a death certificate. With all this said, I'm wondering if the person at the San Mateo County Clerk-Assessor-Recorder's (is the same as the "Vital Office" you checked?) just didn't do their job? Did you email them first to confirm they had the record? They will do it for free. 3. I'm wondering if those older birth documents might have to be ordered through the San Mateo County Genealogical Society, whose website is where the birth listings are found. It seems the list is published by permission, which may mean SMCGS has jurisdiction over the document volumes. 3. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,773720,00.html Children Without Morals - Time Magazine, Oct 5, 1942 Monday, Oct. 05, 1942 One crime frequently suggests another, and it sometimes happens that a small wave of violence follows one sensational brutality. But the outbursts of cold murder and the high incidence of rape in the nation during the last few weeks seem to be something else again. Public officials and welfare workers think they see a deeper reason than mere suggestion. What worried police and welfare workers most was a sharp rise in juvenile delinquency. Near Chicago, two boys held a farmer's family terrorized for several hours, threatening to kidnap their young daughter. San Franciscans were shocked by the story of two girls, 12 and 13, living in a downtown hotel with three members of an orchestra. This was only one incident: the city was crowded with girls and women, eager for the easy life of a port city, drawn by soldiers waiting for embarkation. To talk to the young girls, to help them along, the city set up a Big Sister Bureau in its Police Department under motherly Kate Sullivan, daughter of a onetime detective. Kate Sullivan found that many girls felt it was their duty to do whatever a departing soldier wanted; she told them to try to convince the soldiers that they are fighting for American homes and respectable women. But juvenile delinquency was up 20% over last year in Los Angeles; in New Orleans it was up 56% among Negroes, 5% among whites; in Boston up 15%. Said Dr. Mary Fisher, head of Vassar's child-study department: "There are thousands of 12-to 15-year-old girls who flirt with men in uniform. Educators should do something about them. They are war casualties." In New York, FBI Chief J. Edgar Hoover warned "unless we all do our jobs better, we can expect another era of lawlessness as after the last war." 3. Hi, Helen... I'll be able to do more research in the next few days for you. However, I have a couple of suggestions: 1. Try the databases at California Genealogical Society www.calgensoc.org based out of Oakland. They have SF Court files listed there that might yield something, and they also have some Marin County files. Some things might require membership, if so, let me know and I'll look it up for you. 2. www.SFgenealogy.com has a link to Jim Faulkinbery's (sp?) site that has database listings from SF newspapers dating WAY back. I apologize, I'm unable to find that link at the moment. 3. Also, if children were born 1905 or after, try different combinations in Ancestry.com for mother's maiden names. Just some thoughts off the top of my head. I'll get back to you in the next few days. I'll help where I can. Hope this helps Barb > Date: Mon, 19 May 2008 23:17:23 -0600> From: hoconn@comcast.net> To: casanfra@rootsweb.com> CC: oconnor@rootsweb.com> Subject: [CASANFRA] O'Connor, May and Eileen, 1876 & 1893 LA, CA> > Looking for the marriage or death of May O'Connor, found only in the > 1900 census in San Francisco and her sister Eileen found in 1900 in San > Rafael.
