    1. Re: [CASANFRA] Passenger List and Citizenship records - Monahan
    2. Lynda La Bar
    3. Hi Beth,   I don't have answers to your question - but I have been looking for relatives/parents/siblings of my great-grandmother, Nora Monahan - any connections??   Nora Monahan, born County Cork, Ireland 25 Mar 1863- died in SF 16 Apr 1937.  According to her death certificate, she came to the US/CA abt 1886. The 1900 census says she came to US in 1889, 1910 census says 1884, 1920 census says 1888, 1930 census says 1888. She married John J. Johnson, a ships carpenter (b.Finland 12 Jun 1860-d.SF 29 Dec 1945) abt 1890 and was with her husband and 4 children in 1900 in Eureka, CA. Her husband, John Johnson, came from Finland in 1888- so I'm looking at the census records that say 1888/89 as potentially just a repeat of her husbands arrival date by the enumerator...but have no docs to prove....   Sometime between 1906-1910 they moved from Eureka to San Francisco - my grandfather, William Francis Johnson (son) said they weren't in SF during the 1906 earthquake - he would have been 6yrs old at the time. By 1910, they are listed in the census in SF and John is on the SF voter registration list at the same address on Winfield St.   Please let me know if Nora rings any bells with your research! I'd be interested in what other ideas you get for searching passenger lists and citizenship records... with a name as common as John J. Johnson, his has naturalization records have been difficult to track down as well! Thanks much! 1. [CASANFRA] SF - Shooting on Jan. 13, 1899
    2. The Schafers
    3. Hello, I'm trying to do some more research on this shooting on Jan. 13, 1899 All I can find are these two snippets from the Sac. Bee. I'm hoping someone might be able to find some more info in the SF Newspapers. Maybe closer to the date it happened maybe? I'm hoping to find a location of the shooting, photos or more info from the witnesses. If anyone has more access online than I do that would be so very helpful. Names interested in our: Thomas H. Kennedy, Mrs. Elizabeth Regan, and "Mrs. Johnson" or Mrs. Johnston as they call her here "KENNEDY--San Francisco, January 14, 1899- Thomas H. KENNEDY, a mounted policeman, was shot and killed yesterday afternoon [13 Jan 1899] by Mrs. Elizabeth REGAN, a widow. Mrs REGAN claims that KENNEDY called on her in the afternoon in a social way, and they became involved in a quarrel, and fearing harm at his hands, seized the officer's pistol and shot him in the mouth. KENNEDY died on his way to the hospital. Mrs. REGAN made another statement to the effect that the officer was living with her, and that he drew his pistol to intimidate her, and in the scuffle that followed she attempted to seize the weapon and that it discharged, inflicting the wound in the mouth." Source: Sacramento Bee, 14 Jan 1899. Transcribed by Sandi Bordelon. "KENNEDY--Mrs. Elizabeth REGAN, who killed Thomas KENNEDY at her home late yesterday afternoon, was exhonerated today by a Coroner's jury. Mrs. REGAN's sister, Mrs. JOHNSTON who witnessed the shooting, testified the weapon exploded during a struggle for the weapon. The jury returned a verdict that she acted in self defense." 3. Yes, but I don't do much there as their system is not very Linux compatible at this point. What did you want to know? Why are you considering it and what are you comparing it to? It is worth it for me as I got it for an extremely low rate a year ago, and they do send special offers that are good deals, like I extended my Ancestry.com membership for very cheap through a WVR offer, and their members sometimes get other free offers not available to the general public. I used to really like their search engine results, and am not happy because the site has become hard on my Opera browser now, but that's because it is a non-standard browser and system and it might be different for you if you are using Windows. I have spoken with them and, unlike the huge Ancestry.com, they are trying to make their site more compatible for everyone again. You can always try it and get a refund if you don't like it. I do think that it is an honest company. tc On 6/24/08, Edel/Jack <jackedel@pacbell.net> wrote: > Has anyone had experience with World Vital Records.com ? Thank You.

    3. Hi John... As I'm not certain what documents you might have, I have a couple of suggestions depending upon that, other than marriage information. Your uncle's death certificate might hold some information. They take awhile, however, here's their link: http://www.sfdph.org/dph/comupg/records/vitalRec/default.asp I have several relatives buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. They, too, will pass on whatever information they have in their files, but for a fee. Here's their information for genealogical research requests: http://www.holycrosscemeteries.com/contact/geneology.htm Here's the web page for their form: http://www.holycrosscemeteries.com/contact/documents/genealogy-form.pdf Possibly the Eureka area libraries might have an obituary from their local paper(s) which might contain his wife's name. Hope this helps... 3. * I am hoping that some of the knowledgeable people on this list help me with information on how to obtain a marriage record from the City or County of San Francisco. My great-uncle (Thomas Gray) was listed as single and living in San Francisco in the 1920 census. He is listed as still single and living in Eureka in the 1930 census, but when he died in Eureka on December 3, 1944 he is listed as being married. We have not been able to find a marriage for him in either Eureka or Humbolt County. He is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in San Francisco so we are guessing that he was probably married in San Francisco between the 1930 census and December 3, 1944. I have been told that I should try the records in San Francisco rather than the State of California. I guess that my questions are: (1) Where do I write to? (2) Is there is a form that I should use to request a search? (3) What is the cost of a search for 10 years? Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide. John McGreal Beaver, PA*

    3. Can anyone offer any suggestions for Kim? Ancestry.com only lists the info she already has From: Kim Teague [mailto:kimteague02@hotmail.com] Sent: Saturday, July 05, 2008 6:17 PM To: sweeth2o1@gmail.com Subject: Family Name Linda, This email may be in vain, but after a lot of search we are at a dead end. Just wondering if you can help? We found you name on a search. If you can't help, I will understand. Here is the situation. My Grandfather Robert Bradbury and his twin sister Betty were adopted by Edwin P. Bradury and Elvira. All we have is the birth certificate showing these two individuals as parents. The birth date shows January 2, 1921. We know that this is probably not the correct date because of the adoption, but they were newborns. The real parents were killed in an auto accident, obviously not long before this date. I have tried to look for newspaper articles showing something about a couple being killed and two surviving children, thought that might be put in paper. Edwin Bradbury had one actual son Norris Bradbury, he was one of the leading scientist on the atom bomb during world war II. He even has his own museum in Las Alamos, NM. We used to visit them when I was child. There are numerous articles on this member of the family and his father, Edwin. The real question is do you know of any good way of looking up the death of actual parents for late 1920. Or maybe adoption records? if you have any suggestions it would be appreciated. Wondering the real Family Name, Kim Bradbury Teague Kim, All I can find is the info you already have: Last_Name <http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/php/sql-a.php?server=1&db=vitalsearchca&pos=0 &sql_query=SELECT+Last_Name%2CFirst_Name%2CMiddle_Name%2CB_yr%2CB_mo%2CB_dy% 2CMothers_Last_Name%2CSex%2CCounty_of_Birth%2Cidno+from+cabirths_ygenfull+wh ere+1+and+Last_Name+like+%22Bradbury%22+and+B_yr+like+%221921%22+and+B_mo+li ke+%2201%22+and+B_dy+like+%2202%22&sql_order=+order+by+Last_Name+ASC&table=c abirths_ygenfull> First_Name <http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/php/sql-a.php?server=1&db=vitalsearchca&pos=0 &sql_query=SELECT+Last_Name%2CFirst_Name%2CMiddle_Name%2CB_yr%2CB_mo%2CB_dy% 2CMothers_Last_Name%2CSex%2CCounty_of_Birth%2Cidno+from+cabirths_ygenfull+wh ere+1+and+Last_Name+like+%22Bradbury%22+and+B_yr+like+%221921%22+and+B_mo+li ke+%2201%22+and+B_dy+like+%2202%22&sql_order=+order+by+First_Name+ASC&table= cabirths_ygenfull> Middle_Name <http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/php/sql-a.php?server=1&db=vitalsearchca&pos=0 &sql_query=SELECT+Last_Name%2CFirst_Name%2CMiddle_Name%2CB_yr%2CB_mo%2CB_dy% 2CMothers_Last_Name%2CSex%2CCounty_of_Birth%2Cidno+from+cabirths_ygenfull+wh ere+1+and+Last_Name+like+%22Bradbury%22+and+B_yr+like+%221921%22+and+B_mo+li ke+%2201%22+and+B_dy+like+%2202%22&sql_order=+order+by+Middle_Name+ASC&table =cabirths_ygenfull> B_yr <http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/php/sql-a.php?server=1&db=vitalsearchca&pos=0 &sql_query=SELECT+Last_Name%2CFirst_Name%2CMiddle_Name%2CB_yr%2CB_mo%2CB_dy% 2CMothers_Last_Name%2CSex%2CCounty_of_Birth%2Cidno+from+cabirths_ygenfull+wh ere+1+and+Last_Name+like+%22Bradbury%22+and+B_yr+like+%221921%22+and+B_mo+li ke+%2201%22+and+B_dy+like+%2202%22&sql_order=+order+by+B_yr+ASC&table=cabirt hs_ygenfull> B_mo <http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/php/sql-a.php?server=1&db=vitalsearchca&pos=0 &sql_query=SELECT+Last_Name%2CFirst_Name%2CMiddle_Name%2CB_yr%2CB_mo%2CB_dy% 2CMothers_Last_Name%2CSex%2CCounty_of_Birth%2Cidno+from+cabirths_ygenfull+wh ere+1+and+Last_Name+like+%22Bradbury%22+and+B_yr+like+%221921%22+and+B_mo+li ke+%2201%22+and+B_dy+like+%2202%22&sql_order=+order+by+B_mo+ASC&table=cabirt hs_ygenfull> B_dy <http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/php/sql-a.php?server=1&db=vitalsearchca&pos=0 &sql_query=SELECT+Last_Name%2CFirst_Name%2CMiddle_Name%2CB_yr%2CB_mo%2CB_dy% 2CMothers_Last_Name%2CSex%2CCounty_of_Birth%2Cidno+from+cabirths_ygenfull+wh ere+1+and+Last_Name+like+%22Bradbury%22+and+B_yr+like+%221921%22+and+B_mo+li ke+%2201%22+and+B_dy+like+%2202%22&sql_order=+order+by+B_dy+ASC&table=cabirt hs_ygenfull> Mothers_Last_Name <http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/php/sql-a.php?server=1&db=vitalsearchca&pos=0 &sql_query=SELECT+Last_Name%2CFirst_Name%2CMiddle_Name%2CB_yr%2CB_mo%2CB_dy% 2CMothers_Last_Name%2CSex%2CCounty_of_Birth%2Cidno+from+cabirths_ygenfull+wh ere+1+and+Last_Name+like+%22Bradbury%22+and+B_yr+like+%221921%22+and+B_mo+li ke+%2201%22+and+B_dy+like+%2202%22&sql_order=+order+by+Mothers_Last_Name+ASC &table=cabirths_ygenfull> Sex <http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/php/sql-a.php?server=1&db=vitalsearchca&pos=0 &sql_query=SELECT+Last_Name%2CFirst_Name%2CMiddle_Name%2CB_yr%2CB_mo%2CB_dy% 2CMothers_Last_Name%2CSex%2CCounty_of_Birth%2Cidno+from+cabirths_ygenfull+wh ere+1+and+Last_Name+like+%22Bradbury%22+and+B_yr+like+%221921%22+and+B_mo+li ke+%2201%22+and+B_dy+like+%2202%22&sql_order=+order+by+Sex+ASC&table=cabirth s_ygenfull> County_of_Birth <http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/php/sql-a.php?server=1&db=vitalsearchca&pos=0 &sql_query=SELECT+Last_Name%2CFirst_Name%2CMiddle_Name%2CB_yr%2CB_mo%2CB_dy% 2CMothers_Last_Name%2CSex%2CCounty_of_Birth%2Cidno+from+cabirths_ygenfull+wh ere+1+and+Last_Name+like+%22Bradbury%22+and+B_yr+like+%221921%22+and+B_mo+li ke+%2201%22+and+B_dy+like+%2202%22&sql_order=+order+by+County_of_Birth+ASC&t able=cabirths_ygenfull> idno <http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/php/sql-a.php?server=1&db=vitalsearchca&pos=0 &sql_query=SELECT+Last_Name%2CFirst_Name%2CMiddle_Name%2CB_yr%2CB_mo%2CB_dy% 2CMothers_Last_Name%2CSex%2CCounty_of_Birth%2Cidno+from+cabirths_ygenfull+wh ere+1+and+Last_Name+like+%22Bradbury%22+and+B_yr+like+%221921%22+and+B_mo+li ke+%2201%22+and+B_dy+like+%2202%22&sql_order=+order+by+idno+ASC&table=cabirt hs_ygenfull> BRADBURY ELIZABET 1921 01 02 NORRIS FEMALE SAN FRANCISCO 0 BRADBURY ROBERT 1921 01 02 NORRIS MALE SAN FRANCISCO 0 I will ask on the San Francisco genealogy list.
