    3. Me too! My g-grandmother died Oct. 30, 1896. BUT she appears live and well in the 1900 census! Go figure! I too have her obit, along with her burial card and picture of her tomb. So, there is no question that she had passed! Strangely, the data on the census would have been correct had she been alive, as in how many years was she married? How many live kids? All except her place of birth....weird! This is particularly true of phone books. Usually the family phone is listed in the name of the husband. If he dies but the rest of the family remains in the home, the listing may remain in his name for 20 years or longer. City directories are usually a bit better. 3. I would have agreed but the address is different - 6th St. in 1905 vs Fulton in 1908. I had looked her up in Vitalsearch - the only possibility is Fannie GAGE who died 1/4/1919 in San Joaquin County (Co. 39) at age 65. I should order that death cert anyway, just for grins. Thanks! 3. Dear Ruth, Thanks for posting back. The site is a bit complicated looking. I continue to work with it to make it less so. Your feedback is always helpful in that. To search the San Francisco book, go to http://directory.evendon.com and click on the link for the book. This will load the page list for the book in the left frame and will show you the title page in the main frame. At the top of the left frame is the search. The SEARCH SELECTOR is automatically set to search just that book at this point. So all that's needed is to enter a search string in the blank space. You may have to click in that space to enter the text. I suggest a surname, e.g. Whitaker. Then <enter> or click on "Search". The results will show up in the top frame. If you are in the 1908 book, you'll see a bunch of "hits". At the beginning of each "hit" is the page number where it was found and that page number is a live link. If you click on it, the page will show up in the main frame. I hope this is helpful. Please don't hesitate to post back. 3. Could SKS on behalf of Holger Spengler of Germany, find an obituary on the death of Josef Bock, b. abt. 1868, Hochwang, Bavaria, d. 31 Jan 1926, San Francisco, County. There is a Joseph Bock in the 1913-1923 CA Voter's Registration, however that Joseph Bock, a baker & retired was born abt. 1846, and most likely not related. The only information on his whereabouts is from a 1908 postcard sent from Hoboken NJ, unknown even if he lived in NJ. Unknown his immigration date, who he married, no children and I have been looking since this morning and no real other leads to go on. Unknown when he migrated to CA from NY or if from NJ. Unknown his occupation, if any siblings who may have came to the USA. Parents remaind in Bavaria to the best of my knowledge. Thank you so very much, Doc
