    3. There is almost certainly no connection between St. Mary Star of the Sea parish in Gualala, Mendocino(http://www.mcn.org/1/aloysius/MARYSTAR.HTML) and in San Francisco (http://www.sfarchdiocese.org/parishes/starofthesea.html), apart from their both being Roman Catholic. It is a popular parish name in coastal towns and you can find Star of the Sea RC churches in Sausalito, Alviso, San Pedro, and elsewhere. --- Lavonne Emler <embear5@home.com> wrote: > There is a Catholic girls high school in SF called > "Star of the Sea", > possible it could have been connected? > The school is in the Richmond district of SF. > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Christine Moody" <clmoody@avci.net> > To: <CASANFRA-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, August 13, 2001 9:05 AM > Subject: [CASANFRA] help > > > > im looking for some info. 3. Margie, This sounds really good. I have not yet contacted Walter Gray, the State Archivist, however, so unless you have been in touch with them since my last info to you, they aren't doing anything YET. BUT I will try to call him tomorrow as I am carless for a couple of days. THANK YOU for all your work. You need to share this with other northern California counties, since many of those residents also used the asylum in the early years. 1. [CASANFRA] Larkin Papers: A six year old to Oahu
    2. Bill Roddy
    3. In 1840 Larkin sent his six year old son, Oliver, to Oahu for his education. The child living in Monterey spoke mainly Spanish and Larkin was unable to converse with him in English. Other children would follow: Spence, Watson, Kinlock, Wilson and Fitch. Larkin writes nothing of little Oliver's feelings on the day he departed Monterey on a small sailing ship for a voyage of thousands of miles, leaving his mother and father. There are other letters from Oliver to his parents and they will added. Bill http://americahurrah.com/Larkin/Oliver.htm -- http://www.americahurrah.com The History Company bill@americahurrah.com

    2. Sandra Harris
    3. To James in Marysville, WA mailto:mrwonder@gte.net I have copied the page(s) you requested and will be sending them to you shortly. Highlights: Thomas Charles CAVE was a retired officer of the English Navy, a man who had distinguished himself in different branches of Her Majestry's service for many years. His descendants are now among the prominent citizens of San Francisco. He was born at Salisbury, England, Feb 19 1824, the son of Dr. Thomas and Julia Anabella (de STARK) CAVE, the later a daughter of Baron de STARK. Dr. Thomas CAVE was a house pupil of Sir Benjamin BRODIE. Four sons and four daughters were born to Dr. and Mrs. CAVE. Thomas Charles CAVE visited the US in 1852 and then went to the West Coast of Africa where he served for ten years as a captain in the English navy. Thomas was married in Albany NY to Alice CARR, who was born in Lancastershire, England, but had been a resident of the US since she was two. Two children were born: Thomas Charles CAVE, Jr. (deceased) and Annie. Annie was married in 1881 to George Loomis NORTH, who died 18 years later, leaving two sons: George Loomis NORTH and Chester L. NORTH. After the death of her first husband, Mrs. NORTH was married to Capt. John METCALF, who died in 1913. Thomas CAVE died in Feb, 1880. You mentioned MORTON in your request but I didn't seem to find that surname in this biography. Sandra
