    1. [CASANFRA] San Francisco Marriages
    2. I am trying to locate the marriage record of John BARR (b. 1875, Ormstown, Quebec, Canada) and Maud L. BALZLAY (b. 1875, Canada). John was single on the 1920 census in San Francisco, where he was listed as a marine engineer. Are there marriage indexes open to the public for the period 1920 +? dick barr Syracuse, New York

    3. Hi Amber - I believe the years of death that you show are covered on-line at http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com 1930-1939 are listed for sure and I hear the 1905-1929 (A thru O) are also listed. Hope this helps, RUTH ______________________ Ruth (Grady) Skewis ruth4527@mindspring.com > -----Original Message----- > From: Amber Lee [mailto:Dzintra@webtv.net] > Sent: Monday, October 01, 2001 9:46 AM > To: CASANFRA-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [CASANFRA] Marshall > > > Could someone do a look-up on the California death Index for me..... > I am trying to find information on my grandparents-in-law and I thought > I would start by finding the date of there Death..... 3. This area was better known as the Barbary Coast and is just north of the heart of the Financial District. When I was growing up in the City, I remember an arch across one of the blocks of Pacific Avenue (near Hotaling Alley, I think) that was inscribed with the words, "International Settlement" but I could be wrong about its location or if it's even still there. Here are a few websites that may provide you with more information: Digital photos: http://206.14.7.1/cgibin/tramp2.exe/form/A0gaoqer.000 http://www.barbarycoastpress.com/Pages/hometext.html http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=002eCJ Good luck... 3. Hi Pam- Potrero Hill was once called Scotch Hill, (where the Scotchmen lived) according to _This is San Francisco_. It mentions that many of the Scotchmen worked at the Scott Iron Works. Nothing in this reference for Queen Lily Soap. 3. Good Morning to all, I am new to this list. Does anyone know if there is a Presbyterian Hospital in San Francisco. I know it was there in the 60's. I tried to call information and they told me there was no listing. If any one can tell me the new name (if there is one), address and phone number, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance Kathy in Washington State

    1. [CASANFRA] Privacy, Genealogy and the Web.
    2. Dear List, Does anyone have experience in having a web site removed from the net which invades the privacy of families and those living. It is one thing to share information and to make genealogical information available to the wider community, but when irresponsible individuals post complete details of living people as well as addresses etc., without even asking permission, I believe something has to be done. In my case I have had some forty years of research stolen and placed on the web by a New Zealand person who invaded by trust. I have asked him to remove the various pages but so far he has refused to do so. The Australian family traces its descent back to the early 1600's and has numerous related families in the United States, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. The Australian families have been researched very thoroughly by me with the intention of publishing a history of the pioneers of the family but now that has become threatened by the loss of sales due to so much of it being stolen by this renegade in New Zealand. I would be interested to learn if there are any means in the United States of having web sites using American companies as the host, removed. The matter is all the more pressing as we are concerned over issues of private security against all kinds of extortion and other nasty possibilities. In a dangerous world we can do without irresponsible genealogists. Robert Ashley, Ballarat, Victoria.

    1. [CASANFRA] International Settlement
    2. Hello all, ...My father and I have been working on getting his life history on tape. We were talking about when he was young and his experiences in SF. He said he spent many hours in the International Settlement there, where every nation seemed to be represented. His stories are delightful and I'd like to add some pictures to his stories. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find very much information about the International Settlement. My Dad was there in about 1953/54. I was wondering if anyone has pictures of it during the time he was there, or would know where I might find some? 3. Your best bet would be to contact the web host, and explain your concerns. If they're a major ISP, they'll probably try to get compliance from their subscriber. If your material was copyrighted, they you also have a civil cause and could contact a lawyer about obtaining a restraining order against the person publishing the materials or the ISP who's hosting the content. Unfortunately, in either case, the individual in NZ could simply change ISP's and republish it. And a US court has no jurisdiction in NZ. You might alternatively or also need to seek legal redress in NZ as well. Unfortunately, there are no Internet cops. Good luck. 2. I tried to send the following message to George Rushton who had previously helped me with a request I sent to CASANFRA-L. However, my message to him did not go through. Is there anyone else who could answer my questions? I appreciate any assistance you can give. "George - On July 12, you sent me an e-mail stating you had found something on a Fred Triest in 1909 who was arrested with his wife for forging checks for food, with a one year old child. Is there someplace I can check to see what his wife's name was? I am not sure where you found the info. Also, on July 11 you gave me information on a Fritz Triest born 04/08/1880. died in Los Angeles on 02/11/1965. Is there someplace I can check to find out his occupation and also wife's name? I thank you very much for all your help in the past and for whatever you can give me on this request. Thanks again - Edel"
